Pavers are a classic choice for an aesthetically pleasing driveway or patio. In this post, we'll go over what pavers are, what they're best for, and potential style options.

What are Pavers?

Pavers are individual stones that are interlocked to create the driveway or patio. This creates a traditional looking style, though more modern options are available. They come in a variety of shapes and colors. Pavers are a more expensive option, however, the final result has a long lifespan and requires little maintenance.

Ideal Use

Pavers should be your first choice if you want a traditional look for your home. They have high traction (even when wet) and work well in a variety of different applications, like driveways, patios, and walkways. Also, unlike poured concrete, you don't have to wait for pavers to "cure" and avoid foot traffic at first. Pavers are ready for use immediately after installation.

Maintenance and Lifespan

Pavers are long lasting and very durable and can last anywhere from 30-50 years. Unlike poured concrete which can crack, you'll be hard pressed to do any lasting damage to individual pavers through regular use. In the event that there is damage, the section that's damaged can easily be replaced.

It's possible for weeds to grow between pavers, which can be a nuisance. However, this is less likely with professionally installed pavers. You can also apply paver sand which can potentially stop weed growth entirely.

What kind of styles can I choose?

Pavers aren't just limited to traditional "cobblestone" styles. There are a variety of modern styles that you can choose from as well. Here are a few examples of paver styles:

Basalite Artisan Slate

Basalite makes a unique textured paver called Artisan Slate that has darker cool and warm shades. It's our most affordable paver but doesn't lack in the interest and reliability departments.

Calstone's Belgian Stone

For the quintessential traditional paver, Calstone's Belgian Stone wins in its class. A muted gray color with lovely rounded edges reinforces the grace and timelessness of the individual stones.

Belgard Melville Plank

For a clean, modern look with a bit of traditional feel, the Belgard Melville Plank paver is a great choice. It has the qualities of a modern paver with a narrower width, which works great for more traditional homes that have modern landscape elements.
